Darn near perfect (4/5) Dec 14, 2008 Rockbug63 Santa Barbara CA US
I am a Geocaching fan with many years on a Garmin 72 handheld. This 255 is great except it does not come with a USB cable so no out of car charging or registration ability or updates until you get one. Also not sure when the battery will finally give up but the user CANNOT replace it!! Have you read that fact ANYWHERE? Voice quality is a little off but loud enough and screen brightness is top rate. A few data entry quirks exsist but are tolerable. Rerouting is fairly fast. Data base for POI's is HUGE. I'd recommend it.
good gps (3/5) Nov 17, 2008 joel niagara falls ny US
I got this gps because i wanted to be able to make the decision to travel without directions playing a part in my decision. This gps is a perfect fit for someone that just wants a good gps. really the only reason to purchase a more expensive one is because you want extra features like a bigger screen or a bluetooth for your phone or real time traffic. I didnt need all of that. I like this gps but my individual one has problems. it crashes and restarts randomly. this happened right after i installed the update online. i was instructed to do a master reset but that is just a reset of the user settings. it didnt fix the problem and now i have to set up my home and favorites and stuff. i recently went to boston and in downtown boston i was lost for awhile. the gps tells you to turn at a certain street but on the major streets there are no street signs, just routes and destinations like aiport and downtown. there are tunnels and bridges and roads all over the place, i went on the wrong ramp because it told me to stay on a certain route but the two forks didnt have that route on the sign. it took at least 5 minutes for it to realise that i was on a different road because they are right on top of each other. but that might be a generic gps thing. either way i would have been more lost if i didnt have a gps because it recalculated the route for me and i eventually made it to my destination. im still very glad i had this gps.
Great Little Unit, but . . . (4/5) Nov 15, 2008 Expect Alot Annapolis MD US
Easy to use out of the box. I recommend it. Fast acquisition and good tracking. Plenty of brightness and volume.
Few negative nits: POIs are a bit slow to come up. I can't find a QWERTY keyboard option. Only two American voices available.

Editors Note: The QWERTY keyboard option is only available on widescreen models
state of the art (5/5) Jul 2, 2008 Lyman Bach Cambridge MA US
Fast acquisition of satellites and good retention of signals. Display is bright, crisp, and well laid out--although I wish the "favorites" button were on the first page. Announcing the street name for the next turn is a wonderful feature. Just three small concerns. One, the speed limits shown often differ from actual, posted speed limits. Two, the text-to-speech voices are unpleasant and have an insistent "commanding" tone. Three, when leaving a route, it can take considerable time and distance before the unit begins recalculating a new route. Overall, a great unit for the price, I'm very happy with it.
Just Right (5/5) Jun 23, 2008 John Powalski Kenmore New York US
As my last one it worked right out of the box. The volume is louder than my 330 which was hard to hear sometimes. I like the HELP system since I have a defibrulator in me for a heart condition and now can always find the nearest hospital if I need to. It's small enough to hide in my ashtray and can still pick up the satellites. Greatest thing since slice bread.
Great, little dissapointed on the voice (4/5) Jun 21, 2008 Brian Nguyen Richmond VA US
The Garmin Nuvi 255 is pretty great in general. The new turn icon on top left is great, quick and easy to look. Sat is pretty fast. The only thing I have against this thing so far is the voice. Comparing it to the Garmin nuvi 260, the voice on the 260 was better (less nasal) although I still could understand the 255 without problem. The speed limit in my area was limited to only highway, which is ok, but could have use more on the local street and I wish that it would warn me if I exceeded speed limit.

Just got it today. User friendly. Definitely better than the nuvi 260. The new feature of the Where I am location works to perfection.
