Excellent (5/5) Jan 3, 2008 Tom Mountain View California US
I've had the 760 for one month and I'm really impressed with this product. Excellent maps, directions, signal locking, screen brightness/clarity, and timely voice prompts. The "extra" features such as the bluetooth, stylish packaging, and user interface are fantastic as well. The only weak point is the FM transmitter. It's difficult to get a clean and consistent signal. I've used a cassette adaptor plugged into the audio out port and that works great if you want to hear everything through your car speakers (if you don't mind having another cord dangling over your dashboard). However, the built-in speaker also works just fine. Overall a fantastic product.

I also purchased the Garmin friction mount ("beanbag") to use on my dashboard and that is also a great product. It's very stable and secure. The whole thing slips right into my glovebox so that prying eyes have no idea that I have a GPS unit.

I also want to recommend GPSnow. My order, payment, and shipping were processed efficiently and as promised.
GREAT PRODUCT-GREAT DEAL (5/5) Dec 29, 2007 Todd Paquette Dickinson TX US
After countless hours of research for not only a great GPS, but also a great price, I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 760 from GPSNOW. I am very impressed and very happy thus far. Satellite lock is under 15 seconds, the traffic receiver is dead on for the Houston area, and the units fit and finish is perfect.
The Nuvi 700 series (5/5) Dec 27, 2007 Tim GA US
  I purchased the nuvi 750 “ gift” & 760 “ for myself” from GPSNOW. 3 reasons why?
1: The features included on the 700 series 2: GPSNOW clearly had the most competitive price for both units. 3: shipping cost “ lowest among all other competitors.” I tested nuvi 760 today and it performed perfectly, including route planning. What amazed me was its ability to acquire a strong GPS signal inside the house, of course once placed inside the car it acquired a signal immediately and never lost it. This unit is extremely easy to use and software updates are a breeze. I am officially hooked on the nuvi 760, it is amazing. I plan on purchasing additional nuvi’s from GPSNOW ( shop with confidence, emails are received immediately following an order and upon shipping. Keeps you up to date on your order. Both my orders shipped the same day). These nuvi’s make excellent gifts
Small package with HUGE features (5/5) Nov 26, 2007 Scott Merrill US
I absolutely love it. I have been searching for a while to find a GPS
that would fit my hectic travel requirements. I have found it in the
760. I am happy to see Garmin offer the MSN compatible feature on the
760. Setting up the Bluetooth feature with my cell phone was a snap as
well as programming my frequent routes. Since they advertise that the
unit is more portable than its predecessors, I was disappointed that
they did not include an AC charger or a carry case to support their
marketing efforts. Nevertheless, I am extremely happy with my new 760
and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a multifunctional
GPS unit.
Simple and elegant (4/5) Nov 28, 2007 Santhosh PA US
Very simple and elegant to handle. The brightest LCD I have ever seen in a GPS!!

When you use Text-to-speech voices choosing a male voice resembles the natural tone compared to a female voice.

Even at home the satellite signal strength is at a maximum which is awesome.
If you have the money and you are tech savy this is the GPS for you!!!
THE BEST (5/5) Dec 2, 2007 Randy Nichols Santa Clarita Ca US
I did extensive GPS research on several different brands and price, before deciding on the Garmin 760. I wanted the best and I think I got it. I not only found the best price, with free shipping, I also found a company that gives Awesome service. I got my Garmin 760 in four days, as promised. My only mistake was not buying the accessories at the same time I purchased the 760. I spent $11.00 for shipping on the second order. Order everything with your initial order, you will not be disappointed!
I have bookmarked 4X4books.com and will check it first before buying anything else.
First Rate GPS and Customer Service (5/5) Nov 29, 2007 Randy Carrollton Texas US
I did a lot of research and feel I made a great choice on the Nuvi 760 and GPSNOW.com I highly recommend this company for prompt and friendly customer service! Delivery was speedy!

The Nuvi 760 is quite easy to operate and has all the features right out of the box to get a good first start with GPS car navigation.

Thanks Garmin and GPSNOW.com!
This nuvi 760 is fantastic (5/5) Mar 15, 2008 michael arnoldi atlanta ga US
I bought the Nuvi 760 in December and now it's March and i am still in awe with all the features. I added the GDB 50 for the MSN services and these additional features makes this unit even more valuable. The gas price feature is very useful nowadays, the additional downloads of points of interest from http://www.poi-factory.com/ makes the nuvi 760 the ultimate GPS (red light alerts, school zone alerts, outlet malls.....) if I were to buy another GPS - this would be it. Features that I would like to see added are voice commands (see next model 8xx) and road updates by gps users
marnoldi (4/5) Jan 5, 2008 michael arnoldi atlanta ga US
i had the unit for 1 week and it is fantastic. i used to own the street pilot III and comparing the two i find a few missing options:
the ping-ping sound before announcing a voice message, and retaining the go to destination even after switching off the unit & then switching on again - with nuvi 760 it has to be re-entered.
the sceen is difficult to see at times when the sun shines on it while driving ( a hood would fix this). the odd set up is the FM connection to the radio, where you have to tune to an unused fm station (which means i can't listen to the radio during this type option)- this must be fixed so that i could tune to any fm station & be interrupted for a direction [Garmin please fix this]
the above failings are the reason for 4 star rating, but otherwise this unit rocks. even the bluetooh work great & voice dialing [i am using Samsung SGH-D357 - and it's not even listed as a compatible phone - woow i am amazed]
the traffic alert with TMC has not come in handy yet, but i find very little information as to the cost of each service. i would like to see the cost for TMC & MSN after the trial period is over.
i love the last location option. finding a satelite cluster takes at most 1 minute.
the mounting bracket that i use is Garmin Dashboard Mount for the StreetPilot C510 and C550 (010-10747-02)bought separately
and it fits like it's supposed to. I also ordered a carrying case and a power supply for in house use without a computer.

Terrific GPS at a terrific price! (5/5) Jul 6, 2008 Mark Verona NJ US
My wife and I have been using Garmin C320 GPS in each of our cars since 2005. It was time for an upgrade. I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 760 and we love it. Here is a little overview about how I decided what to get and some of the key features we had to have.

My “must haves” in the new GPS were “Text To Speech”, Traffic, Bluetooth, no flip out antenna, and a 4.3” screen.

I did a lot of research on Magellan, TomTom and Garmin models meeting my “must haves”. My conclusions were as follows: The Magellan incorporates AAA and that I feel is a really nice touch. The TomTom’s come pretty loaded but seem a bit more complex. The Garmin’s interface hasn’t changed form the C320 but Garmin has added a slew of additional features in comparison to my C320.

The first thing I did once I got the 760 was register it at the Garmin web site. Once I did I was able to update the unit’s software and Maps. Garmin has a “Web Updater” software download on their web site. Connect the 760 via the supplied USB cable and run the Web Updater Software. The software will check for the latest version of system firmware/software and update the 760. That worked very well I might add.

The 760 came with 2008 Maps but the 2009 Map update is available via Garmin’s web site. If you buy the 760 now you can call to get the 2009 Maps free if it does not come with them. Garmin uses NAVTEQ Maps and from what I have read, are more accurate for the USA. The web site was telling me to buy them but I made a quick phone call to Garmin and verified my purchase via email with one of their support staff. A few minutes later I was able to either download or get a DVD with the 2009 Maps. The DVD is $10 and that is for shipping. I opted for the download. The 2009 Map file is large, around 2 Gigabytes so it took about 20 minutes to download via my cable modem. Once downloaded I ran the setup and it updated my 760 to the 2009 Maps. It was pretty easy but including the download it took about an hour. I also created a DVD with the 2009 Map file for safe keeping. The map is the Complete North America Maps. On the C320 the maps had to be uploaded and not all of the USA would fit. The 760 is fully loaded with the USA and Canada. Very nice!

While I was online I looked at the Garmin “Extras” available for download and decided to add a few new Vehicles. Pretty cool.

Once I finished updating the 760 I took it to my car and mounted it. The mount is just a couple of pieces and the 760 mounts securely in seconds. The power cable connects to the mount and not the unit so that the unit can be removed from the mount easily with no wires to disconnect. The mounting is excellent. I also purchased the optional “Portable Friction Mount” which sits on the dash. I highly recommend this so that you can easily hide the 760, mount and all, on the cars floor. Very easy as compared to the supplied suction cup mount and doesn’t leave that suction cup ring on the windshield. Seems thieves love to smash and grab navigation units so the Friction Mount is great as it leaves no evidence visible you have a 760 in the car.

I am amazed at how quickly the 760 acquires Satellites. When I did the software/firmware update it installed SiRF Star III Quick Fix. This allows the 760 to acquire satellites very quickly. So far every time the unit has been off to powered on it has acquired satellites as soon as it is booted up. Total time from off to “Ready to Navigate” is about 30 seconds.

The Nuvi 760 has a beautiful, bright, and crisp looking 4.3” display. The fonts have been updated and the graphics are much better than my C320. I really like the new Automatic Zoom in and out based on distance to the next turn and destination. You can see the destination Checkered Flag and Via Point Flags are Orange. A nice touch is that your Personal Addresses display on the Map.

The 760 speaks street names “Text To Speech”. Nice feature instead of turn right in 200 feet. There is no maneuver Ding like on the C320 but I’m not sure it is needed with the additional spoken information.

The 760 includes Bluetooth so I was able to pair the wife’s phone in about a minute. Really simple. The Phone Book from the Phone transfers to the 760 along with Recently Dialed, Recently Received, and Recent Missed calls. Very cool. Once you start populating the 760 with your “Favorite” destination addresses you can manually add Phone Numbers to your Favorite addresses if needed. This is very nice since you can touch the Favorite you want and touch the little phone icon and dial that number. You can talk “Hands Free” via your 760 and I was pretty happy with the voice quality. I read a few instances where people say it doesn’t work well or sound good. This isn’t the case for us as I find it to work very well and sound really good. A valuable and convenient feature. On our first trip together we needed a certain item and we were able to pull up stores we thought would have it and simply touched the phone icon and called them to see if they carried what we needed. Once we found the store that had what we needed we were able to easily navigate to it. Very convenient and easy to use. I recommend the 760 with Bluetooth. Very nice.

Searching for any of the included 6 million Points of Interests is easy and the POI Search displays Names and Addresses in the results. The additional address is a nice touch to see just how far away a result is if you know the town and how far away it is from you. The keyboard can be set to QWERTY and that makes typing so much easier if you are familiar with a PC keyboard. And who isn’t now a days. Another nice feature is there is a drop down that will allow you to access and insert recent Searches without having to retype them since they are remembered by the 760. Another nice feature.

Another very nice feature is you can create multiple destinations and have them automatically sorted for the optimal route. You can keep adding stops or via points and you can even remove them. You can manually reorder them to your liking or let the 760 automatically reorder the best route for you. Great if you need to run some errands at two or three different stores. The 760 will get you to each in the most efficient way.

The 760 has a “Where Am I” feature that is very nice. It will show you Hospitals, Fuel, and Police stations that are near to where you are at. It will also indicate the nearest Address and nearest Intersection. This is great to see just where you are and can be provided to law enforcement in an emergency or to tell someone exactly where you are in an unknown area. Your Elevation is also indicated.

As you drive there is an icon that will display the Speed Limit for the road you are on. A little reminder to check your speed and keep it safe.

Maybe on of the best features are the Real Time Traffic updates. The 760 comes with the FM Traffic power adapter. The Traffic adapter is in place of a regular power adapter so the only thing different is it is it has some LED’s and it is a little larger where it gets plugged into the car’s power. Of course you need to be in an area that is covered by FM Traffic. If you are in a covered area than it can take about 10 minutes to get traffic data. Once data is in the 760 it will display on the map and on a separate Traffic screen. One bad thing is once power is lost so is the traffic data. It may take another 10 minutes or so the acquire traffic data again. Traffic issues are displayed on the main map screen with different colors and an appropriate traffic icon on your route as you approach them. An icon in the lower right will also show you how much time traffic is causing your delay. This time is automatically added to your current route. If the traffic is deemed too much then the 760 will recalculate a new route almost seamlessly to divert you around the traffic. There is plenty of traffic related detail on a separate screen if you want to access it. You can also touch the “Avoid” or “Detour” to force the 760 to reroute around traffic. The included FM Traffic comes with a 3 Months free Trial then it is $60.00 per year. Worth it if you are on the road a lot and your travels are within the covered areas.

I think I am going to get the MSN Direct (separate power adapter) after the 3 month trial expires. The MSN Direct includes Traffic, Gasoline prices, and Weather alerts. There is more to MSN Direct but these features make it more worth it to me. Another nice thing about the MSN Direct is that you can opt for a one time lifetime payment and you’re done.

These are all the features for us that make the 760 a really nice GPS unit. There are many pluses and only a few drawbacks. Two drawbacks are; no House AC Adapter and no Carry Case for storage. But, if you have a USB cell phone then you can probably use your AC charger for the phone as I do.

I recommend the Garmin Portable Friction mount for the dash. Easy to put in place and hide on the cars floor. I also recommend getting the Garmin Carry Case.
Great GPS (5/5) Jun 3, 2008 Judy Pierce Leesburg Florida US
Bought the 760, after reading the positive reviews, as our Christmas present. It was easy to set up. Also bought the beanbag holder and it actually stays put! We really tried the GPS out this summer when we took a trip from Florida to Annapolis MD to visit relatives. We had never been there and had no clue how to get to their house. Put in the address and it took us right to their doorstep. GREAT!
The only complaint we had was it took us from I-95 to I-895,down a couple of exits and onto I-295.....Should have stayed on I-95.
Easy to use and very compact (5/5) Jan 21, 2008 Jimmy Apex NC US
My first GPS unit. Missing some new streets near home and POIs when I traveled to GA(4 Rite Aid drug stores in Gainesville. This maybe common for all GPS units.
Easy to use and very compact and mobile. Using friction mount(beanbag)works very well and easy to put away.

Highly recommend GPSnow, great price and very fast shipping with US Postal Service Priority Mail.
Awesome GPS Unit (5/5) Nov 14, 2007 Jim Blevins Pennsylvania US
After having a few GPS products, I found this one by far the best. The portability and extra features like bluetooth phone, fm transmitter and media player make it very user friendly and allow you to use your vehicle speakers. It was simple to set up and worked flawlessly with my Cingular 8525.
Best GPS Available!! (5/5) Dec 1, 2007 Gene Mah Lawrence KS US
This is my second GPS unit and they have come along way in 5 years. The ease of use and features of the nuvi 760 are incredible. It is easily updated via the WebUpdate software available on the Garmin web site. I purchased 2, one for me and one for my parents. I highly recommend the nuvi 760.
Maps need updating (3/5) Apr 4, 2008 Carla Perbetsky Ukiah CA US
For the most part this product is great. The features are good, it is very user friendly, and it has many useful tools. Don't depend on this to get you ANYWHERE the least bit rural!! Especially in an RV. We use it for in-town purposes and to find restaurants, hotels, etc., but we race dirt bikes and have entered known addresses to OHV parks and campgrounds and have found ourselves with RV and bike trailer on some serious wrong roads. It once lead us directly into a nuclear power center off of a dirt road and we couldn't turn the RV around for 4 miles. It sometimes tries to take us off the main highway on roads just to get back on the same highway four or five exits down. I wouldn't depend on this soley, but definately a good extra resoure. If your looking for your friends track home or the nearest Starbucks, it's great.
Absolutely Outstanding Product (5/5) Dec 28, 2007 Carl E. Davidson Sunnyvale CA US
Attention to detail for both the hardware and the software is everywhere to be seen and appreciated.

Outside of a factory-installed unit, the Nuvi 760 is as good as it gets!
Another Home Run for Garmin (5/5) Nov 29, 2007 Bill Rohdenburg Walpole NH US
I have had quite a few Garmin products over the years, ranging from fishfinders for the boat to GPS units for the boat, hiking and kayaking, and now finallly, a dedicated unit for the car. The only problem is that it doesn't stay in the car! I seem to take it with me wherever I go. I use the music player when I'm walking the dogs, I load pictures on the SD card to show friends and, oh yeah, I actually use it in the car too.

Overall, I am totally pleased with this unit. I always research these sorts of purchases pretty thoroughly and I'd read mostly positive things about the 760. About the biggest complaints that I'd read were 1) a weak FM transmitter, 2)some users reported occasional lock-ups that necessitated resetting the 760, 3) Slow to lock on to satellites (20-30 seconds) when first turned on and 4)the warning about upcoming exits (when in navigation mode) was way too short. I am happy to say that I haven't experienced any of these problems. The FM transmitter is at least as powerfull as the one in my satellite radio (the new FCC Regs put pretty serious restrictions on their output), the turn warnings seem to come up in plenty of time, and I have to confess to having a fairly heavy foot on the interstates and the unit has not locked up on me (yet). When I took the unit out of the box and turned it on to make sure it all worked, by the time all the warnings and splash screens were finished I had full satellite lock and the unit was ready to rock. I went ahead and connected the external antenae (thank-you Garmin for giving us that option because now I can get it off of the top of my dash) and left the unit alone for about 30 minutes. I had read on another website that people who immediately started moving with the unit seemed to experience more problems than those who didn't(?). I then took the unit inside where it still seemed to be able to get signal lock with no problem(!) and updated the software from the Garmin website (it's free). So far, no problems or complaints whatsoever. I am totally pleased with this unit and GPSNow's price beat everybody elses that I found (Amazon didn't even have them in stock yet!).
About the only complaint that I have is that the Navteq maps are totally clueless as to some of the street names in my area. The errors are actually fairly amusing because in one instance when I drive one way it has the name wrong but when I go the opposite way, the name is right(???).
All in all, another home run by Garmin!
This is the GPS device to buy (5/5) Nov 27, 2007 Anonymous Mercer Island Washington US
After spending weeks reviewing and comparing several GPS devices, the Garmin Nuvi 760 beats all. The large screen is easy to read and shows details clearly and accurately. The user interface is simple to navigate through which made set-up a breeze. One of the added benefits to the 760 model is the bluetooth capability - great for hands-free calls. The audio clarity of the device is suprisingly good. The multiple routes feature also comes in handy during traffic revisions, construction, etc. Can't say enough good things about this device.
Wow! (5/5) Mar 6, 2008 Al Nowakoski Avenel New Jersey US
Garmin 760 is awesome. Got it for Christmas and it's great. It's my first GPS and I couldn't be happier. Thanks Santa (via GPSNOW).
Makes travelling much easier! (5/5) Apr 9, 2008 al koons downingtown pa US
I bought one for my son. We used it to drive across the country and it made the trip much easier. The talking feature helped while driving thru a congested city area so I could keep my eyes on the road and not have to look at the GPS or look for road signs. It was very accurate with the directions. It even told me what lane I should be in to get the next exit. I was so impressed I just bought one for me...
By far the best (5/5) Nov 2, 2007 Anonymous
I have had several GPS units and this is by far the best. Several features I like even better then the 660.
