| built tough (5/5) | May 9, 2008 | Anonymous | ||
| I've had a 60csx for two years now, and its been through some tough conditions. It is like magic. I use it in many differnt applications, and it has never let me down. While waiting for a gondola, snow boarding in BC, I dropped it on the snow and piled a bunch on top and tapped it down with my boot, then uncovered it, blew off the powder and kept on going.. just for reaction from the crowd. Great unit, its well worth it to go the extra mile with the csx and its removable memory chip and color screen. | ||||

The GPSMAP 60CSx topomap feature is FANTASTIC!!! If you love the outdoors this is the GPS to have. If you like to go hiking anywhere, and you get lost, the [optional] topo map gives you accurate detail of the terrain, and you will be able to navigate your way to safety. Love it!!! [Editor's note. MapSource US Topo and the MapSource Topo 24K National Park maps are both available by separate purchase] |

| Wow! Great hand held loaded with features (5/5) | Dec 4, 2006 | Mark R. Richards | Appleton WI US | |

I really like the built in marine features and the ability to download fishing maps for just about anywhere in the country. The built in compass is a nice feature and provides you your direction without moving. The display is really good looking and the color screen works well even in bright sun light. I was concerned that the screen might still be too small, but for a portable device it is very readable and bright. Garmin has done a very nice job grouping functions into separate modes which makes it easier to navigate through the menus. It allows for a very streamlined interface in each mode. One of the better features is the "find" function which groups waypoints and other data into logical groups. There are many ways to customize the unit, but it's still ready to go right out of the box. I’ve been researching GPS units for awhile and believe the 60CSx has some great memory capacity and is indeed expandable along with a more sensitive antenna. The SiRF antenna is very reliable even in heavy cover and under cloudy conditions. |

| Expandable memory is great (5/5) | Jan 19, 2007 | Larry Powers | Bow NH US | |

I had the older model, GPSMAP60Cs, and decided to get the newer model after hearing reports of more sensitivity. So far I haven't been disappointed. The screen seems to redraw quicker than the old model. The expandable memory is great as I use this gps in the car, motorcycle's (dual purpose & touring). Used the old model this fall on a trip through the Skyline Dr. & Blue Ridge Parkway. Had to reload new maps 2 or 3 times throughout the trip from N.H. Hope to get a 2GB card and load all of U.S. so I won't have to keep reloading as I travel. My only complaint isn't with the unit itself, but with Garmins policy of requiring the purchase of unlock codes on more than 2 units. I sold my old unit and still only have 2 units, however I have to purchase another unlock code to load the City Navigator map's, even though I just bought the latest upgrade last year. SUCKS! |

| A worthy purchase...! (5/5) | Nov 30, 2006 | Rodney Moreland | Corinth TX US | |
| I’ve been researching GPS units for awhile. A friend of mine bought the 60CS a year ago and really enjoys it. His only complaint was the memory capacity. So once the new 60CSx came on market with the expandable memory and higher sensitive antenna—I decided to start saving my money. The 60CSx has been a worthy purchase. The higher sensitive SiRF antenna is amazing. As I sit inside my house writing this review with storming conditions outside, the 60CSx is able to come with 16ft accuracy. I do most of my hiking and trail mapping under moderate to heavy tree cover so this improved feature was very important to me. The color display is also great and it’s very easy to navigate through the different menus. I have no regrets buying the 60CSx and would highly recommend it to any GPS enthusiast. | ||||
| great all around handheld/Great company (5/5) | Aug 10, 2007 | David Worthan | Dallas Georgia US | |
| This is the 2nd Garmin unit I have owned the 1st being a76cs which was a great unit.I just sent back another brand of gps which had a great concept but too many bugs for my liking.I opted to go with the 60csx because it looked more compact with the same features and screen size as the 76csx.The 60 to me is more suited to the hand because of the shape and size of the case.It also has a rubber case. The 60csx has the new high sensitivity receiver, I can pickup 5 satellites in my house!I can't think of any feature on a gps that I would want.I only wish Garmin would include more detailed maps with the base price. You can't go wrong with Garmin or GPS Now. | ||||
| Excellent GPS (4/5) | Sep 6, 2007 | Steven Leifer | East Greenbush NY US | |

The 60csx with the City Nav and the Topo got me from NY to Colorado and back. I was within one foot of a geocache in Creede. Never lost a signal in the Rocky Mtn Park. My only complaint is that when it calculated the quickest route from one town to another, it had me go onto a gravel road that was only suited to a 4x4 Jeep. And there was NO sign on that road telling me that! Otherwise, this is a very handy device. |

| good for mtb/dirtbike use (5/5) | Nov 30, 2006 | mark weaver | ely nv US | |
| i just upgraded from an older garmin e-trex legend to the 60csx, based on reviews from other motorcyclists. i also got the handlebar mount and hard-wire power kit. after using the unit (on battery power, haven't had time to wire it in) for a week, i'm quite pleased. the screen is easy to read, the buttons are easy to get to, even while riding, and the unit seems to be noticeably more accurate and consistent than the e-trex models. on particularly abrubt jolts (wheelie-drops across big washouts, or slap-down front-wheel landings) the batteries would still get jolted enough to shut the unit off, but that only happened a couple times during the week, and i expect the hard-wire kit will cure this. the battery compartment is definitely more stable than the e-trex. | ||||
| WOW! (5/5) | Jan 3, 2007 | Trinity Schaff | Fargo ND US | |
| I very seldom fill out a review, but after reading many that were posted on the 60csx, I went ahead and purchased one. My breaking point was the positve support of the product from Garmin themselves, I have already had to test their customer support due to a serial number glitch, they have moved to 9 digit serial numbers and everything, including there website only accepts 8 digits, if you enter the 1st 8 digits of the 9 digit, IT WILL NOT WORK! Call Garmin if the website does not accept the 9 when you enter it, it will save you a lot of frustration. Garmin took care of me better than anyone could expect and I was up and going with in minutes with their help. If you need GPS look no further, this is a fantastically accurate product with great ease of use, and even better product support! | ||||

| Trail and Auto (5/5) | Jul 6, 2008 | Walter Engelken | Houston Texas US | |
|
I have owned a GPSMAP 60CSx for about one year and love it. Once you figure out everything you can do with this gps, you will be impressed, and perhaps in awe (trail and auto). Micro flash cards are cheap and I have three 2GBs: one for Western USA, one for Central USA and one for much of the Eastern USA. I have City Navigator 2008 and US Topo 2008 loaded on these micro flash cards. The flash cards work great and have about 1 GB of room left for other information (POIs, etc). I have been seriously looking at the Garmin Seven Series Nuvi but have a hard time justifying one for the main advantage of a larger screen. Three issues which I consider HUGE about the NUVIs: 1) cannot sort through Favorites alphanumerically, 2) no warning “ding” chime when approaching a turn, and 3) less sensitive because the new Seven Series Nuvi’s have no external antennae. The 60CSx unit can gather 5 to 8 satellites from inside my office. I never loose a satellite outside or while traveling (even tunnels are not an issues because it relocates quickly once out of the tunnel). It attaches to a bean-bag auto mount … which is perfect. A Great GPS. |

I found this to be an incredible asset for use while hiking, and is going to ruin my map reading skills. Does everything I could think of. What shame it doesn't seem to be capable of charging batteries via USB without removing them all the time. |

| I've had my GPS for a year and a half and it has been great. I carry it turned on in my backpack while backcountry skiing and in my raft while on whitewater trips. It's tough and reliable. | ||||
| great unit and great purchase experience (5/5) | Aug 3, 2008 | Mark Jones | Midland MI US | |
| The purchase and the GPS unit both exceeded my expectations. I bought this unit to map courses when hiking and biking. It works well in woods and on roads. Screen is visible even in strong sun. Great ability to transfer data to the computer. | ||||

| Two words......Amazingly Accurate!! (5/5) | Nov 30, 2006 | Jamie Buenting | Rockwell City IA US | |

After researching many GPS units, I decided to upgrade to a Garmin 60CSx. When it came in the mail (yesterday), I played with it for about an hour, checking out all the exra features it had compared to my old GPS. I then set out to do what any owner of a new GPS does, check to see how accurate it REALLY is. I was absolutely amazed, along with my friend. We consistantly navigated with the 60CSx, to within 10ft of our market target. This unit will not only get you back to camp, it will take you to the front door of your tent. With the new SiRF antenna, the acquisition time was very fast, and it maintained excellent signal strength. This along with the electronic compass, versitle color display, and overall ease of use, it has won a stong two thumbs up from me. I'll be using it during all my outdoor activities, whether I'm hunting, fishing, hiking, or geocaching. Thanks Garmin for a great reliable product. |

| A Geocacher's Dream (5/5) | Apr 24, 2007 | Chuck Short | Salem IL US | |

I purchased my 60CSx about 9 months ago and loved it so much that my son purchased his soon after. My wife loves to go Geocaching more than me, if that is possible. Here lately she has gotten so aggrivated at me since the GPSr she is using is so much slower than the Garmin. So to keep peace in the family, I have ordered her one for her birthday. It is the only GPSr that I will recommend for Geocachers. |

| The ONLY way to geocache... (5/5) | Nov 16, 2006 | Chris Short | Salem IL US | |

After pulling my hair out caching with a basic GPSr of another manufacturer and getting frustrated, a friend suggested the Garmin 60CSx as THE GPSr to have since it will pick up satellites anywhere, even while sitting in your living room. I figured that would work for tree cover and it has never let me down. I switched to the 60CSx in mid-August and have not regretted the decision. Since this time I have passed along the praise of this product and three other area geocachers (including my son) have purchased the 60CSx. As more local cachers place caches out there with highly precise coordinates, my old GPSr was simply under powered. Repeatedly it would place me in the middle of the road, 50 to 75 feet away from the cache. I tried the Garmin 60CSx and literally walked to within a few yards of the cache. The 60CSx is amazing to use. It's simple, durable, and so accurate, I think I might have to be careful hiding my next cache or it will take all the difficulty and fun out of the next search. Also, the night-time contrast is wonderful for those late night drives home. No flashlights or worry about glare. This GPSr has everything I could want. Thanks to Garmin for a product worth investing in! |

| A must have (5/5) | Feb 15, 2007 | M Morriss | Savage MN US | |
| No matter what you are into this unit delivers. I use it for hunting, fishing and auto navigation. With its electronic compass it works extremely well in the woods, even in heavy cover. Load the lakemaster data card into it and get extremely well detailed maps of your fishing spots. Put the city navigator maps in it and get turn by turn directions with auto routing and re-routing on missed turns. Geocache friendly. There simply is not a handheld on the market with all these capabilities. Did I mention the unit locks on to satellites in extremely dense cover? I can turn this on in my house in my basement sitting 6 feet away from the window and it locks on. Truly well worth the investment. I have had mine a year now with no troubles. I have tried the others and they do not hold a candle to this unit. | ||||
| Great GPS and Great Service (5/5) | May 15, 2007 | Vince Haag | Seattle Washington US | |
| I just received my 60CSx from GPSNow.com and am very pleased with the unit. It is a very nice upgrade to my older Garmin Vista. It captures sattelites MUCH better. What I am most pleased about is the customer support I have received from GPSNow.com. I had a shipping problem with my order and GPSNow.com stepped right in with a fast resolution. I HIGHLY recommend GPSNow.com. | ||||
| By far the best GPS device (5/5) | Oct 9, 2008 | Dan Rio | SIerra Vista AZ US | |
| I'm very picky and did a lot of home work before I bought the Garmin 60 CSx. I've had mine for some time now. I'm an avid Jeep off-roader in Southern Arizona. This is by far the best GPS device I've ever owned or seen on the trail. I also use it for my real estate business and sell a lot of remote land. This thing is spot on, easy to use, batteries last pretty good if you leave the light off, I added a 1 gig card and it accepted all the North America Street maps except for Alaska and New York, two places I probably won't be any time soon and can always erase and reload if I do. It also comes in very handy in city situations and even helps me find an ATM and good burger joint when I'm hungry in an area I'm totally unfamiliar with. 5 star for sure! | ||||
| Incredible reception and lightning lock! (4/5) | Sep 27, 2007 | Gil Meacham | Spokane Washington US | |
| I am very happy with my new 60CSx. I am amazed how quickly it locks on satellites and stays locked in difficult reception areas. I've used my trusty Garmin GPS II Plus for 10 years, and it has served me well. Some of the accessories (12v Power cord and remote antenna) from the old Garmin still work with the new one. I doubt if I'll be using the remote antenna, though. The 60CSx locks well just sitting in the dash mount. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is the mapping software, both bundled and purchased, is not up to the value of some competitors. | ||||
| Love, Love, Love this GPS! (5/5) | May 5, 2008 | Delinda VanneBrightyn | Taos NM US | |

I serve on search & rescue...with 30 team members, we have all kinds of GPS units that we use, but this GPS is the best of them all...for versatilty and speed of use as well as acquiring signal when all others fail. The color screen and large format make it easy to see and read quickly and acurately. On my old Rhino, the 8's, 6's & 5's were sometomes hard to distinguish. 1) We were out in the mountains during a torrential rain storm and the Garmin 60CSx and the Garmin Rhinos were the only ones that kept satellite reception and continued working for us. 2) I am a K-9 handler and the Garmin 60CSx enables me to still closely watch my dog and easily/quickly navigate on the fly when running behind my K-9. Its great! Now, if we could only get a really good 1:24,000 map program that would interface with the Garmin for all remote areas! Well, that would really be sweet :-) |
