Great Unit (4/5) Mar 3, 2007 Henry Martin Jackson CA US
This unit is awsome for hiking and other outdoors type activity. It's not real great in the car but it works.
For the price it outperformed my expectations. It's not overwhelming to use, but has every funtion you will need to make you comfortable in an area you are not familiar with, and it will bring new light to the areas you are familiar with.
I love it (5/5) Mar 10, 2007 Richard W Powhatan VA US
This is my third eTrex Vista. The first was lost skydiving and I bought the second unit the minute I got home.
I use it for student pilot flying, skydiving, fishing and traveling. This unit is a great travel tool as long as you have the Mapsource® Software. With out Mapsource®, it's not user friendly for travel but still great in the woods or in the air. I can exit the plane at 14,000 feet and see excatly where I tracked, how fast I fell and my canopy flight. I bought the last one as a backup to go to Utah this spring, I won't even take a map since eTrex knows where to go.
Smaller than a cell phone and packed with options, be ready to practice with it for a while before you trust it.
Great Unit (4/5) Mar 19, 2007 Michael Juengling Saginaw MI US
This is my first GPS and it outperformed my expectations. I just used the base map that came with the unit during a trip this weekend and I was amazed at the detail and accuracy. I intend to use it for navigation while sailing
Overall, Substancial (3/5) Mar 31, 2007 Evan A. Edstrom Spokane WA US
This is an ok GPS for basic use, although contrary to what it may seem, there is no software, or maps included, except for the basic. I Use this product for geocaching, and wish there was a way to upload caches to it for free. The available maps seem a moderately high price and therefore might wish for one to be included. I would like to see a bit more customizations to this product, such as a customizable page button. This is a minor thing though, so overall a substantial device for the basic explorer.
A Good Unit (4/5) May 31, 2007 Emanuel Block St. Paul MN US
It does what it is supposed to do. The manual lacks scenarios that a user, new to GPS, might encounter. For example, getting a bread crumb track when not using goto, track, or route (you must enter a starting waypoint). Also, the effect on track painting when the signal is weak (results in a broken track line).
