This is my first GPS. I bought it as a backup to map and compass for on and off-trail navigation. The construction quality is great. Satellite lock-on is quick; I haven’t been in any deep canyons or deep undergrowth yet – but the unit does stay locked on in my house! The best accuracy the unit has indicated is 6 feet. The manual is fairly basic, I recommend reading about map datums elsewhere for example. Garmin’s website has more in-depth information and there are plenty of other web/book sources for information. Default for the unit is WAAS off. It has to be turned on in the settings page. It would be nice to be able to specify start-up page – for example once turned on it takes a couple of button presses to get to the “location” page. Highly recommended. |
