The capabilities and size are impressive. They have packed a lot of functionality in a 5.5 oz package and made the display very readable. The text and resolution are great and the color enhances the display. The receiver quickly locks on and it seems to be a great receiver of the sattelite signals. This enhanced receiver alone makes it worth the purchase price. The "Enter/Rocker" key takes some getting use to, but quickly becomes an effective tool for controlling the unit. I give the human interface 5 stars. I used the included software to import my waypoints and routes from my Garmin 12Map. If you GO TO a waypoint, the Etrex continuously updates the vector between you and your destination which my 12Map didn't do. I also own a Nuvi 360 for driving use and recommend it if you plan on using a gps only for driving. The 360 is useless for hiking or any off road activity and that's why I bought the Etrex. The Etrex display is small and could distract a driver. I recommend inputing your destination before driving and set the unit to display what you want then only observe the map display while driving.
I was dissapointed on the limited included map which is far inferior to the included map on the GPS 12Map. If you are going to use the Etrex in a car or bicycle, you need to buy the appropriate map software and buy an SD card. With these additions the unit becomes 5 star. |
