I have bought 4 Garmin MapGPS 76S units over the last 4 years for our field crew. They are very durable. They even float. I had to replace one, but only because it dropped out of a pack in a wildfire. Having a compass that points north before you move is a nice feature, when you need to orient yourself. WASS also is handy, and has repeatedly placed me within 10' of a waypoint. We use Public software from Minnesota DNR to download and upload waypoints. Their software is available at this web site:

Current tidal charts for anywhere in the world are satellite downloaded as you seek them in the menu. |
