The iQue M5, Garmin’s first Microsoft® Windows Mobile™-based Pocket PC enabled with GPS and Bluetooth® wireless technology. The Garmin iQue M5 features Garmin’s integrated suite of Que™ mapping and navigation applications that use satellite technology to give consumers a sense of direction.

Ideal for mobile professionals, the Garmin iQue M5 delivers the robust features of an in-car navigation system with the portable convenience of a powerful and lightweight Pocket PC. The combination of Pocket PC software, location technology and Bluetooth connectivity on the iQue M5 gives users the flexibility with a single device to stay on task and on course in their workaday world.

Garmin is broadening the Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC experience by integrating GPS and navigation tools into the iQue M5. It will give customers access to their essential information, with the freedom to roam and bring their digital life wherever their busy life takes them.

The Garmin iQue M5 features Microsoft’s latest Pocket PC software, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which supports portrait/landscape screen orientation for easy viewing of documents, videos and Web content. The device is powered by a 416-MHz Intel® PXA 272 microprocessor. The Garmin iQue M5 provides the user with 64MB of RAM, 64MB of ROM and data back-up protection. The embedded Bluetooth transceiver allows the user to establish a personal-area network with computer systems and Bluetooth-enabled devices such as mobile phones, other PDAs and printers.

Featuring a built-in basemap of North and South America, the Garmin iQue M5 shows major highways, thoroughfares, railways, lakes, rivers and borders. Garmin includes its MapSource® City Select® CD as a standard accessory, so users can download detailed street-level map data, look up more than five million points of interest (POIs), and navigate to an address in the U.S. and Canada. World travelers can also add a European or Pacific Rim basemap from the installation CD.

The integrated Que applications enable consumers to see where they are on an electronic map, look up a point of interest and route to it — following voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions to their selected destination. If they miss a turn, the Garmin iQue M5 automatically recalculates a new route to get them back on track. Advanced routing features include the ability to specify roadways to avoid and find POIs near the current route. The Garmin iQue M5 even offers intuitive Point of Interest (POI) searches that are based on user habits. Another distinct benefit of Garmin’s PDA/GPS integration is the patent-pending capability to attach a “location stamp” to a profile in the user’s contact database or appointment calendar and navigate directly to these important business addresses.

The GPS antenna on the Garmin iQue M5 folds flush with the back of the unit. The result of this unique design is an aesthetically pleasing look and feel. Garmin has patented the unit’s special antenna release switch that simultaneously powers up the device, initiates the satellite-acquisition sequence and defaults to the QueMap™ interface. Once the antenna switch is triggered, the device prepares to navigate. The antenna can also be adjusted for optimal GPS signal reception.

Mobile Office

GPS Navigation
The GPS antenna on the Garmin iQue M5 folds flush with the back of the unit. Press the antenna release switch, and it simultaneously powers up the Garmin iQue M5, acquires satellites, and defaults to the QueMap™ interface. Once the antenna switch is triggered, the Garmin iQue M5 prepares to navigate. The antenna can be adjusted for optimal GPS signal reception in any vehicle or rental car. The unit comes with a sturdy windshield mount with integrated charger and speaker.

*PC compatible computer with available USB port required to download City Select maps. Only a portion of the City Select map data can be loaded into the iQue's built in 64 MB memory. The North American City Select v6 CD-ROMs contain over 1,500 MB of map data. Download City Select map sets only for the areas you plan to access local streets in. The iQue M5's Routable Basemap provides routable Interstate (including Interstate Exit Services information) and primary highway information between these areas. Secure Digital Memory Cards (see below) may be purchased if you wish to download more local street detail than the built in memory will hold.

MapSource™ CDs provide high level detail of roads, recreational areas, coastlines, navaids, lakes, boat ramps, topography and more. USB recharging ActiveSync® cradle is included with each iQue M5 to allow you to download MapSource™ CD Data from your PC to your iQue M5. MapSource™ software also allows you to view color maps on a personal computer, with zoom and pan functions for easy map browsing. Users can then select individual maps in areas of interest and transfer the maps to the iQue M5 or other compatible GPS.

Think of MapSource™ as an atlas that contains many smaller maps. By choosing several of these maps, you can make a map set. This map set can then be transferred to your GARMIN GPS, which allows you to tailor the map detail for the geographic areas you wish to view. For instance, if you are planning a trip by car, your map set might only need to include those maps that are along your intended driving route. MapSource gives you the flexibility to choose the extent of the mapping coverage.

Use the trip and waypoint manager functions to create waypoints, routes, and tracks, and transfer them between your GARMIN GPS and your PC. This is excellent for planning your next outdoor adventure, business trip, vacation, or recreational outing without ever leaving your house.
