With the eTrex Legend GPS, GARMIN has loaded a full basemap
of North and South America into one small unit.
The basemap contains lakes,
rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways, railroads and
coastlines. The Garmin eTrex Legend GPS is also equipped with additional
memory totaling eight megabytes. The added memory allows the Garmin
eTrex Legend GPS to accept downloaded map data from GARMIN's
line of MapSource® CD-ROMs. The Garmin
eTrex Legend GPS comes in a brightly-colored translucent blue case
that really makes the unit stand out. New to the product design, GARMIN
has included marine aids to navigation in addition to the basemap.
These navigational aids are pre-loaded into each unit from the

The Garmin eTrex Legend GPS supports the Wide Area Augmentation System
(WAAS)
differential GPS corrections through a system of ground stations and
geosyncronous satellites. Without any additional equipment or fees, the
Garmin eTrex Legend GPS uses WAAS to realize position accuracy of
better than 9 feet, 95% of the time (typical)*.
*WAAS is available in Americas only. Accuracy
may be degraded when view of the horizon is obstructed by trees or
mountains.

MapSource™ CDs provide high level detail
of roads, recreational areas, coastlines, navaids, lakes, boat ramps,
topography and more. A PC Interface cable is enclosed with each eTrex
Legend to allow you to download MapSource™ CD Data between your PC and
eTrex Legend. MapSource™ software also allows you to view color
maps on a personal computer, with zoom and pan functions for easy map
browsing. Users can then select individual maps in areas of interest and
transfer the maps to the eTrex Legend or other compatible GPS.
Think of MapSource™ as an atlas that contains many
smaller maps. By choosing several of these maps, you can make a map
set. This map set can then be transferred to your GARMIN GPS, which
allows you to tailor the map detail for the geographic areas you wish to
view. For instance, if you are planning a trip by car, your map set might
only need to include those maps that are along your intended driving
route. MapSource gives you the flexibility to choose the extent of the
mapping coverage.
Use the trip and waypoint manager functions to create
waypoints, routes, and tracks, and transfer them between your GARMIN GPS
and your PC. This is excellent for planning your next outdoor adventure,
